GADS Audits

Operations, maintenance, and fuel cost data is vital to the operation and accounting of every electric generating unit. This information is critical for plant management, operations, and maintenance management—as well as the corporation—in reporting and understanding the operation of its fleet of generating units. The accuracy and quality of the cost accounting data is of the utmost importance. To ensure that the cost data is of the highest quality, it is often audited by independent groups within the corporation (such as Internal Audit) or by independent third-party auditors.

NERC GADS data is a key source for generating unit performance measurements. It too, is important information for understanding generating unit operations. KPIs can include EAF, EFOR, or EFORd. These KPIs are reported for the individual generating unit, plant site, and generating fleet.

Just as with the cost data, the accuracy and quality of the GADS data must be of the highest importance. Therefore, it is critical that the quality and accuracy of the reported GADS data be independently audited and reviewed to ensure meaningful KPI results.

We provide independent third-party audits of the GADS data collection process and can help answer the following questions:

  • Is the data complete?
  • Is the data accurate?
  • Is the data being reported consistent with the industry?
  • Does the data accuracy and completeness depend on such variables as operation/maintenance shift crew at the plant, amount of training in GADS reporting for the GADS reporters within the fleet, or changing emphasis on various "hot topics"?
  • Is the interpretation of the GADS reporting instructions and definitions uniform within the generating fleet?
  • Is the data being reported to change the KPI results to "favorable" outcomes?

We can work with your staff or Internal Audit group to perform these audits jointly or provide a completely separate and independent audit.

Pricing

Pricing depends on the type of audit (joint audit or independent audit), the number and type of generating units to be audited, the quantity and quality of available supporting information, and the level of detail to be audited and reported.

We look forward to discussing your needs and our in-depth capabilities with you.
